What’s new
The Surface Go 4 looks almost identical to its predecessors, the Go 3 and Go 2, but arrives with significant upgrades and improvements to its specs and internal components.
New Intel quad-core chip
The new Intel Processor N200, the only configuration for Surface Go 4, was released in early 2023 from the low-power Alder Lake-N series. It has four efficient cores and four threads without HyperThreading. Therefore, it has twice the number of cores compared to previous chips. Moreover, it has 6MB of Intel Smart Cache, which is 2MB more than before.
On top of that, it also has an upgraded integrated graphics. The number of compute units on the new Intel UHD Graphics increased from 24 to 32. Additionally, it also has a faster clock speed of 450MHz over 300MHz.
Faster memory
Microsoft equipped the new Surface Go 4 with the latest LPDDR5 memory (two generational advancements) over the LPDDR3 on every older model. The LPDDR5 has a higher memory bandwidth, a faster clock speed (4800MHz over 1866MHz), and more advanced signaling technology. It can transfer data much faster and more efficiently than before.
The company also removed the 4GB configuration, meaning all Surface Go 4 will have 8GB of memory as standard.
Faster storage
Microsoft has made a welcome change to the base model of Surface Go 4 by replacing the slow eMMC storage with a much faster UFS storage drive. This upgrade has significantly improved the device’s performance, previously hindered by the slow eMMC drive.
The company now uses UFS for all configurations of Surface Go 4. Regardless, not all drive capacities share the same speed. The bigger the drive, the faster it is. Learn more here
Longer battery life
As technology evolves, the components of Surface Go 4, including the processor, memory, and storage, have become increasingly efficient. With improved performance, Surface Go 4 also runs cooler and lasts even longer with the same 28Wh battery capacity.
You can now use it for up to 12.5 hours of typical device usage, 1.5 hours longer than before.
Better repairability
The Go 4 now has more components that can be replaced, such as the display, battery, kickstand, and motherboard.
Other improvements
- Slightly lighter than the Surface Go 3
- Windows 11 Secured-core PC
- Dual far-field Studio Mics with Voice Clarity
