How do you turn the screen brightness on Microsoft Surface on or off?

Answer

All Microsoft Surface devices come with an ambient light sensor for detecting your current environment brightness to automatically adjust the Surface screen brightness to an optimal brightness. In case you want to turn on or turn off this feature:

Note This procedure will affect your built-in Surface display only, while the connected external displays require their solution for auto screen brightness.
  1. Go to Start > Settings.
    First, you need to access Windows Settings by going to Start and clicking the Gear icon (or by using Win + I shortcut key).

  2. Go to System.
    In Windows Settings, select “System“.

  3. Go to Display.
  4. Toggle the “Change brightness automatically when lighting changes” switch to “On” or “Off” to enable or disable auto screen brightness on your Surface.Settings > System > Display > Auto Screen Brightness
