Surface Pro 3 Pen Features

The Surface Pro 3 Pen features a premium design and look with an aluminum casing. It is equipped with palm block technology that ignores the pressure from your hand as you use the Pen, allowing you to rest your hand on the screen without any concern.

On top of that, it also introduces new wireless connectivity that allows you to pair and quickly launch applications with the pen’s top button. You can configure it to take a screenshot or instantly open a blank OneNote document even if the tablet is locked or in sleep mode. The pen is free and included in the box of all Surface Pro 3 purchases. However, this is not the case for Surface 3 models.

FAQs

Here are some common questions related to the Surface Pen for Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3.

Question 1

Can I use the Surface Pro 3 Pen (with two side buttons) on older Surface devices?

Answer

No, you can’t. The Surface Pen technology used in newer models of Microsoft Surface devices is not compatible with older models released before 2014, such as the original Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2. This is because Microsoft switched from using Wacom technology to N-trig technology in 2014 with the release of the Surface Pro 3.

Question 2

What is the retail price of the Surface Pen for Surface 3 and Pro 3?

Answer

The official retail price of the Surface Pen introduced with Surface Pro 3 is $49.99.
