Surface Laptop 5 Updates

Microsoft has started rolling out new firmware updates for Surface Laptop 5. The latest update is available for Surface Laptop 5 devices running Windows 10 November 2021 Update, Version 21H2, or later.

The new firmware update addresses a concern where users were experiencing unexpected shutdowns and prolonged system boot time, improved the interoperability with the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock by resolving issues that were preventing the system from detecting audio devices, and addresses a false battery related error message in the Surface App. The update is listed as a “February 09 release” on the Surface Laptop 5 Update History page.

Getting the Updates via Windows Update

You can get this new Firmware Update via Windows Updates, as we detailed here:

On Windows 11:

  1. Go to Start > Settings (Win + I)
    Open Settings app on Windows 11
  2. Go to Windows Update and click on the Check for updates button

On Windows 10:

  1. Go to Start > Settings > Update & security.
