Microsoft has started rolling out new firmware updates for Surface Laptop Studio. The new update is available for Surface Laptop Studio devices running Windows 10 October 2020 Update, Version 20H2, or later.
The new firmware update will addresses critical security vulnerability and improves system stability. The update is listed as “March 01 release” on the Surface Laptop Studio Update History page.

Getting the Updates via Windows Update
You can get this new Firmware Update via Windows Updates, as we detailed here:
On Windows 11:
- Go to Start > Settings (Win + I)
- Go to Windows Update and click on the Check for updates button
On Windows 10:
- Go to Start > Settings > Update & security.
- From the Windows Update tab, click Check for updates
If your Surface Laptop Studio didn’t receive the update, it should appear on the Windows Update list by now.

Really wish they would do something about the battery life of the surface studio laptop. My old 8th gen laptop goes 6 and a half hrs at work without charge. The SSL gets about 2 and a half hours on battery life doing the same thing. Maybe 3hrs if i turn the screen down right down, turn battery saver on and try not to do anything that would use CPU too much. I’ve had MS look at it, said nothing wrong (they claim 18hrs on their website!). It’s relaly annoying having to grab a charger just after an hour of surfing the net. Especially when the SSL I have was alomost $3k. And don’t get me started on macbooks. I would rechrage my macbook every other day…
